We had a VoIP telephone system vision based on years of reliable "digital" phone systems sales. Until VoIP (Internet phones) telephone calls took a short, very direct dedicated path.
You talked on dedicated plain old telephone service (POTS) lines through a local Verizon central office to another POTS customer. The audio sounded great and had (one) 1ms latency. Yet, todays Voice over Internet connections may go from a cell phone, through VoIP to an off shore call center. 800 ms latency is typical. This audio lag results in communication issues.
Our data center is next door to Verizon's Hermitage central office. The advantages to our VoIP bsuiness telephone (and data) customers are huge.
National VoIP providers may create a 1000 mile signal path just to call in the 804 area code. We are optimized for Virginia business.
A short VoIP path means less voice echo and audio latency (talk over condition)
